What a day at Leeds

"Test Cricket is boring". That's what people say, "T20 is the way to go". They had not seen matches or days of cricket like today in Leeds. So far the Ashes had been going Australia's way with them winning the first test in Birmingham and then battling away for a draw. Then England went to Headingly knowing they had to win otherwise the Ashes were heading back to Australia. So England went in and on a wet day they decided to bowl first and England's new star Jofra Archer decided to make his bowling powers known and quickly became Anderson's heir apparent getting six wickets for 45 runs in 17 overs. As England bowled Australia out for 179 on a rain-affected day after Australia got to 136/2. Premier League preview. Will it be 3 in a row for City

Tonight sees the start of the Premier League season with Liverpool taking on last season's Championship winners Norwich at Anfield. The expectations for both teams are completely different. While Norwich is playing for survival and expecting to struggle this season after two Cardiff and Fulham were relegated last season despite getting promoted from the Championship. However, Liverpool is going all-in for the Premier League after getting denied by City on the final day of last season. However, there could be trouble for them as they have to contend with the Champions League as they defend their title after beating Spurs in June's final. Also, they have to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup in December in Qatar as the country prepares for the World Cup in 2022. Luckily they don't enter until the Semi-final stage which gives them only 1 or 2 matches in the competition. Smith frustrates England

It's the first day of August and today is the first day of one of the crickets' biggest rivalries. England vs Australia, otherwise known as the Ashes. The Ashes has been around since the 1880s. Compared to that the World Cup that was on in the last month has been around since the 1970s. Even cricket's popular form T20 has been around since 2003. It's the first of 5 Tests and Edgbaston is hosting it. One of the major players of England's winning World Cup squad Jofra Archer is not in the squad for this match after being out with a side strain and captain Joe Root decided it was best to let him sit out this test match and recover with the intention of bringing him back into the team at Lords which takes part in two weeks time.  Edgbaston has been a fortress for England with them winning the majority of the matches they played at the ground.
