No show from Suarez and Cavani while Salah was on the bench as poor Uruguay scrape win

Today's first match at the world cup was at Yekaterinburg, the most easterly stadium in the World Cup, between Egypt and Uruguay. This was seen in the days leading up as a clash between 3 of the top players in Europe's best leagues, Uruguay's Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain and Egypt's Ballon d'Or Contender Mo Salah of Liverpool. However, before kickoff, it was found out that Salah would be starting on the bench as a precaution of that injury he suffered in the Champions League final. This was Egypt's first game in a World Cup since Italia 90 meanwhile for Uruguay it was hope for two of their top players and everyone was hoping that Luis Suarez would have a quiet World Cup compared to his last two World Cups when he caused controversy.

It looked a little worrying for Cavani at the start of the game when he went down with what looked like a knock, but he recovered very quickly. He then had the first chance of the game, but the shot was to easy for the goalkeeper to save the ball. Then Trezeguet had the opportunity for Egypt, but just like Cavani, his shot was too comfortable for the goalkeeper to save. Luis Suarez had the best chance in the first half when he got the ball at the back post and a clear scoring chance, but it hit the side netting to the shock of the commentators who thought it went in. As halftime struck the feeling was that Uruguay was a weak team and that Egypt lacked the killer instinct with their talisman being on the bench.

The Second half started off with Uruguay attempting to put themselves in the driving seat of the game and Suarez tried his best, but it came off the keeper's knee. Egypt's best chance was a strike with 18 minutes to go, but it was remarkable save to keep them out. After the final substitutions from both teams which did not involve Salah coming on, there was an inkling of Egypt losing heart, and it showed when Uruguay had a free kick in which Cavani shot at but hit the post and Uruguay could not score on the rebound. Then on the stroke of full-time, Uruguay had a final chance from a corner which they converted from by of all players Oscar Giminez who is a defender. That was the last piece of the action.

At the end of the game, it was seen as a relief for Uruguay to win because they were terrible all game but yet won the match.
