Heung-Min Son celebrating |
Well well well, what could you put say about football, especially after what happened at the Etihad last night. Manchester City was playing to keep their quadruple dreams alive meanwhile Spurs were looking to get a trophy in their trophy cabinet in their brand new stadium. If there were doubts for any team, it was for Spurs as the question was posed as if they were Harry Kanes' team. The game started off with Spurs having a 1 goal advantage in the tie.

Sterling scored the opening goal of the night. |
The game started off fast and crazy with 5 goals in 20 minutes, 4 in the first 10. Raheem Sterling scored just 3 minutes into the match after turning the defence round and needed no invitation. Then 3 minutes later Son scored the equalizer after Lucas Moura played a through-ball and Son hit it the first time. Then Son 3 minutes later took the lead after curling the ball around the keeper into the far corner to make it a 2 goal advantage.
Then 101 seconds later Bernardo Silva levelled the game via a deflection by Danny Rose. Then 10 minutes later Sterling scored his second of the night after heading in Kevin De Bruyne's cross which gave City the lead on the night but equalized the score on aggregate. At halftime, the talk was of this becoming a classic and wondering what are we going to see happen in the second half.
Aguero with the lead goal |
14 minutes into the second half City retook the lead by Sergio Aguero finishing off De Bruyne's run into the box and slotting the ball past Lloris at his near post. After then, City started to dominate the match by pressing forward to get a two-goal cushion. And then came one of the most critical moments of the game Spurs launched a counter-attack and won a corner. Fernando Llorente bundled the ball into the net however VAR was brought into play as there was a question of handball. After further review, it was determined that there was more contact on the thigh of Llorente than there was on the arm, so the goal stood. The score was now 4-4 on aggregate which meant Spurs were going through on away goals. City was still pushing forward now believing one more goal was enough to send them through.
Then came stoppage time and the most significant moment of the match. In the third minute of stoppage time, Spurs made an error in clearing out the ball from their own box and City pounced and Aguero got the ball passed it to Sterling who calmly slotted the ball into the goal and sending the City fans delirious and the Spurs fans to doom and gloom and then VAR was announced on checking the goal. 1 minute later, the goal was disallowed, it then turned out that Aguero was a foot offside when the ball was played into him. After that, the fight and energy of the City ran out, and they couldn't launch one more attack. Spurs now face a semi-final against Ajax with a spot at the Champions League final in Madrid at stake.

Two managers, two emotions |
Meanwhile, for City, all that's left for them now is the Premier League and FA Cup. Their Premier league hunt as they chase Liverpool (who also won beating Porto to stake a semi-final against Barcelona) continues on Saturday against of all teams Spurs again. Let's see if that's another classic.
